The 2023 New York City Marathon: A Race Like No Other

This iconic race, known for its electrifying atmosphere along the streets and huge participant field, promises to be an unforgettable experience for those lacing up their speedy shoes. And in the midst of this thrilling event stands a small yet passionate collection of runners from DGR. Know that we are with you on your epic 42.195 kilometer journey through the "city that never sleeps."

NYC Marathon

Since the YouTube channel began to grow in popularity in 2019, my trips to the Big Apple have been nothing short of spectacular. The first group run in Central Park, near the New York City Marathon finish line, was simply jaw dropping. I could not believe how many people showed up to shake out for that year's race. The passion and positivity within the crew of runners was simply second to none.

Although we will not share the streets of New York in 2023, we are still united through this passion for pushing our limits at the marathon distance. The never ending enticement of the 26.2 mile distance all starts at the foot of Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, across the water.

Staten Island is Special

As the starting cannon fires, runners from all corners of the globe will embark on their 26.2-mile journey through the five boroughs of New York City. Racers, don't forget, a key part of the marathon experience is Staten Island. Soak up the thousands of volunteers, police officers, fire fighters, EMTs, and locals who pourNYC out their hearts to make your race day experience the best in the world. You will feel the love and passion for marathon racing when you hit pause before the race: look around Staten Island, and soak in the support for you in the eyes of those who have chosen to give up their 'day of rest.' After the first bridge, the marathon's route takes the racers through the iconic Brooklyn-republic, Queens, Manhattan, da-Bronx, and back into Manhattan, before culminating in the world-famous Central Park. Along the way, 50,000+ runners will encounter the cheers of spectators, the rhythm of live bands, and the spirit of a city that shows up to cheer you on, millions in fact!

Chasing Down the Personal Record in NYC?

The 2023 New York City Marathon is not just a race; it's a stage where dreams are chased and limits are pushed. For runners aspiring to break personal records, it's an opportunity to shine. It's also a chance for professionals to showcase their expertise, and perhaps, even set new world records, well on a really, really good day!

If you are able to chase down a marathon PR in New York, kudos to you! The course crosses five bridges between the Boroughs. These bridges add about 800' of vertical gain to your marathon experience. Compared to the other Marathon majors, like Chicago or Berlin, this is a big number to tackle on race day. The longest bridge carries the iconic status of longest on the course, the famous Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. This leads you to the following waterway crossings of Pulaski, Queensboro, Willis Ave, and wrapping up with the Madison Ave Bridge as runners return to Manhattan from the Bronx, go Yanks!

Despite the bridges vertical gains, you will be amazed at your ability to push beyond your limits thanks to the unprecedented crowds in Park Slope or at the west side of the Queensboro Bridge. Remember, "eyes up, pump arms, quick feet as you head down First Avenue.
